What does it mean to be invited to a college open house?
An Open House is an event business’ host to give prospective students a chance to check out their establishment. For schools, open houses are a bit different. When you go to a school’s open house, you get the opportunity to get a quick feel of the environment you are going to attend.
Are SUNY schools open for tours?
We’re Open! In-person, virtual or both – you’ll find campus tours, open houses, information sessions, and individual appointments.
What is the difference between a campus tour and open house?
Open house is different from a campus tour because it gives you access to faculty, staff, students and alumni who are available to answer questions during breakout information sessions (and you’ll still get to tour campus).
Is NYU campus open to the public?
NYU is beginning to reopen our Campus Without Walls for in-person campus visits. We’re rolling out the purple carpet in phases for everyone’s safety and comfort, and registration is now open for registered guests who wish to experience NYU in person.

What should I wear to a college open house?
Dress clothes are unnecessary, but do dress a little nicer than you would for just a tour. Polished shoes are a good choice, but you still want them to be comfortable. If they’re going to pinch as you walk around campus, you may want to go more casual with a nice boat shoe, loafer, or boot.
What do you wear to a school open house?
In general, business casual dress is a good baseline. This could look like khaki pants and a button down shirt or like a pencil skirt and nice blouse.
Is SUNY or CUNY better?
Academic Reputation Again, both the CUNY and SUNY systems are known for offering high-level academic programs at a low cost. However, SUNY schools, especially at the SUNY university centers, do have a slightly more prestigious reputation than CUNY schools and also have a higher graduation rate.

Try to aim for a business casual or casual type of outfit. Jeans or casual pants are okay, but make sure that you couple that with a button-down shirt for men or a blouse for ladies. Be sure to wear shoes that are nice, but comfortable.

Can I visit NYU in person?
Are visitors allowed in NYU dorms?
Visitation: A resident is permitted to have one (1) guest per bed space, not to exceed more than four (4) total guests in a room/suite at any one time, regardless of the number of occupants assigned to the room/suite. All guests must have followed the appropriate access procedures as set forth above in this document.
Can I wear leggings on a college tour?
Keep your skirt length to around your knees (especially if you’re walking around!), but don’t worry about pantyhose or tights if they’re not comfortable or seasonally appropriate.
Can I wear ripped jeans to a college visit?
Just because you don’t want to overdress doesn’t mean under-dressing is okay, either. It’s not. Anything ripped or torn (even fashionably so) is off limits.
What is the point of a school open house?
Usually held right before school begins or the within the first two weeks of school, the open house gives parents and students the chance to get acquainted with the teacher (or teachers), see the school building and classrooms, and perhaps get a quick overview of class expectations and the year’s curriculum.
