Can you land a helicopter on a glacier?

There is currently no direct route between Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier. The only alternative route between the townships is via Arthur’s Pass and Wanaka, which may take up to 14 hours, depending on conditions.

Is Haast worth visiting?
Haast Pass is a very beautiful drive with waterfalls everywhere, even down to the road. I kept the video camera rolling while we were driving through there and have relived the experience a few times since. The rest of the drive is lovely too, especially beside Lake Hawea and of course Wanaka is a beautiful town.
Is Mount Cook a difficult climb?
The reality is that Mt Cook is a much harder climb than most people anticipate. It is not as high as other peaks around the world, and doesn’t have the issues of higher altitudes, but it more than makes up for it in technical difficulty, the length of the climb and the objective hazards.
