Do J pipes make exhaust quieter?
The shorty header and j-pipe setup was slightly quieter. It also produced a lower tone than the 4X4 setup. I think the quieter and lower tone was a result of restrictive flow, all the bends in the tubes, and the fact that the collection occurs much earlier than in the full lengh headers.
Is J-pipe the same as downpipe?
Side note: this part of the exhaust is usually called a downpipe because, you guessed it, it’s a pipe that travels downward. As turbo configurations change, the name might also (the 2015+ WRX has a low, front-mounted turbo, where a “J-pipe” is the first part of the exhaust connected to the turbine housing outlet).
What is exhaust drone?
Exhaust Drone is the vibrating sound that occurs in vehicles most often at steady highway speeds and is caused by the engine and exhaust system vibrating at incompatible frequencies. Changes range from adding mufflers or sound dampeners to more involved changes including exhaust system modifications.

Will a resonator stop drone?
Mufflers or resonators in track exhaust systems won’t be as effective at preventing drone compared to stock. The resonator and muffler reduce exhaust drone.
Can exhaust drone damage hearing?
Although loud and obnoxious has long been what car buffs like to hear it is destructive to hearing. A loud exhaust system on a long highway drive will do extensive hearing damage.

How do I get rid of an exhaust drone?
Adding a resonator is the best way to get rid of drone. A muffler also has a good probability of success. If you don’t want to go with either of these components or haven’t gotten results, you can try adding sound insulation or modifying other parts of the exhaust system.
Can you run a Catless downpipe without a tune?
Seems there is no damage to engine in running a catless downpipe without a tune, and no performance benefit.
What is droning in exhaust?
What is Car Exhaust Droning? Car exhaust droning is the effect that occurs when waves of sound are zapping through the air and the resultant vibrations meet your vehicle, rattling their way through the various components of your car’s body and frame.
Should I use resonator or muffler?
Mufflers are used to quiet exhaust volume across all RPMs or revolutions per minute while the resonator prevents unwanted resonance or droning noise which happens within a particular RPM range. These components are part of the total exhaust system and do much more than just quiet sound.
